about

Ever since the day I moved out when I was 16 years old, my Mom has called me every Sunday for our weekly Sunday call. Sometimes it’s a simple catch-up, other times it’s a pivotal conversation that carries me for weeks. She’s one of the smartest and most emotionally intelligent people I know. She always challenges me to see things from all sides, and never encourages taking the easy way out. I’ve put out several songs for my Dad in the past, and thought it was time for her to have her own.

I recorded ‘Sunday Call’ for ‘We Are The Reckoning’, but it ended up on the chopping block in order to keep the record tight. I’m really proud of this song, and in honour of my Mom, and all the Mom’s around the world on this Mother’s day weekend, I thought I would offer it up to you.

I’m making it pay-what-you-can, and for the initial release period I’ve decided to go direct to you with it, no middle-man. Instead, I will make a 20% donation of total profits to www.everymothercounts.org on your collective behalf.

If you can’t afford to pay anything for it, then please know that more than anything, I just want you to have it, so please help yourself. It all balances out in the end.

Take care and happy mother’s day, love P

lyrics

Sunday Call

You know I love our Sunday call
The only thing that’s ritual
In my life these days these days

I hope you know, in spite of all
All the times I missed that call
I was almost there, time just got away

When the racing stops
All that’s left are thoughts
There’s always a one I save for you I save for you

I remember piano songs
That you’d play and I’d sing along
Moon river, wider than a mile

And a bagged lunch in a paper bag
A little heart next to my nametag
Pair of jeans with a patch and the AM dial

It’s been a while

When the racing stops
And all that’s left are thoughts
There’s always a one I save for you I save for you

What’s it like in your shoes
Watching your boy turn into
Something you love by letting go, by letting go?

Want you to know

When the racing stops
All that’s left are thoughts
There’s always a one I save for you I save for you
There’s always a one I save for you I save for you

You know I love our Sunday call…
